Two women had their car stolen at gunpoint early Sunday morning in a Carrollton neighborhood block, police said Wednesday.

The women were in a silver 2001 Dodge Intrepid waiting for an acquaintance to come out of a home in the 1700 block of Eagle Street shortly before 5 a.m. when they were approached by a man with a silver revolver, said Sgt. Shaun Ferguson of the NOPD Second District persons-crimes division. He took all of one woman’s belongings – though the others kept her purse with her as she got out of the car – and then stole the car, police said.

The car was found the next day near the intersection of Sail and Wales streets in the Little Woods subdivision of New Orleans East, a common dumping ground near Lake Pontchartrain for stolen vehicles, Ferguson said. Investigators are waiting on outside video from a nearby store in hopes that it shows the carjacker, he said.

This incident does not appear to be related to an earlier string of robberies and carjackings across the city, said NOPD Lt. Mike Montalbano, because the carjacker was using a revolver, rather than the semiautomatic pistol linking the other cases.

In a separate incident, an apparent car-burglary attempt Monday afternoon was thwarted by a Fontainebleau resident, police said.

Teag J. Henrickson, 33, had already broken into a vehicle parked on Dart Street and was inside it when the resident came home from walking his dog, Montalbano said. The resident tethered his dog’s leash to the house and approached Henrickson in the vehicle. A struggle ensued between the two, but by the time police arrived, the resident had Henrickson “detained” without the use of a weapon, Montalbano said.

“He didn’t have the chance to acquire anything,” said Sgt. Marc Amos of the property-crimes division.

Henrickson was arrested on charges of simple burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia, as officers found a collection of heroin needles on him, Amos said. He was released Tuesday until trial on his own recognizance by Judge Darryl Derbigny, jail records show.
