The Broadmoor Improvement Association is withdrawing its name from a list of groups supporting an effort to strengthen the city’s noise ordinance, because its original inclusion was the result of a misunderstanding, an association official said.
Broadmoor was originally listed among the four Uptown groups out of 13 citywide in support of “seven essential items to make the noise ordinance work,” but association spokesman David Winkler-Schmit said that was based on a conversation between an individual Broadmoor board member and an organizer for the noise-ordinance effort. That was a misunderstanding, Winkler-Schmit said, but the board hasn’t voted, and so the association is not taking a position.
“We always try to build consensus in the neighborhood, and we never take a position without a vote of the board,” Winkler-Schmit said.
I just read two comments on Nathan Chapman’s article for nola.com claiming that same pattern has been repeated for at least 4 other neighborhood associations. I’d love to find out who they are. It seems like Stuart Smith’s “neighborhood coalition’ is getting smaller by the day.
