On Wednesday morning, bicycle commuters can ride with others from Uptown or Broadmoor to a meetup in the Central Business District as part of this year’s Bike to Work Week in New Orleans.

The week of Monday, April 13, to Friday, April 17, has been proclaimed Bike to Work Week by City Hall. Sponsored by Entergy, NiteRider and Bike Law Louisiana, this week aims to encourage people to try commuting on their bicycles.

The events for the week will begin on Monday with the Bike Easy Commute Challenge. Participants will receive an email daily after signing up to record if they rode their bike that day. The more bicycle riding the individual or business does, the more chances they will have to win prizes.

On Tuesday, a forum sponsored by Bike Law Louisiana, “Let’s Roll: The Future of Bicycling in New Orleans in New Orleans” will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Sojourner Truth Center at 2200 Lafitte Ave.

At 7 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, there will be neighborhood ride meet-ups and coffee at five locations throughout the city. These five groups will leave their separate locations at 7:30 a.m. and meet up at Lafayette Square. The Uptown meeting location is Whole Foods, 5600 Magazine Street, and the Broadmoor location is Laurel Street Bakery at 2710 South Broad.

Another bicycle meet-up on Wednesday will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Lafayette Square. Free breakfast and prizes will be provided.

Wednesday’s at the Square will follow these meet-ups at 5 p.m. There will be a complimentary bike valet at the corner of St. Charles Avenue and S Maestri Street.

The week will end with a Bike to Work Week Happy Hour with NOLA Social Ride at the Grand Isle Restaurant at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16.

Throughout the week, there will be a NiteRider bike light giveaway at various locations around the city during main commute times. Participants are asked to follow Bike Easy on Facebook and Twitter in order to receive updates.
