The 11th Annual New Orleans Kidney Walk strives to raise both money for kidney disease research and awareness of the need for screenings Sunday morning (Nov. 4) in Audubon Park.

For more information see the following press release from the National Kidney Foundation:

On November 4th, 2012, hundreds of walkers will step up for the 11th Annual New Orleans Kidney Walk and help raise awareness and funds to support the fight against kidney disease in the Greater New Orleans Area.

“This walk will help many others take the lifesaving step of getting their kidneys checked,” said Torie Kranze, CEO of the National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana. “By participating in the Kidney Walk, we’re all helping sound the alert that anyone with high blood pressure, diabetes or a family history of kidney disease should get their kidneys screened — that’s over 73 million, or 1 in 3 Americans at risk.”

The Kidney Walk is a non-competitive 5K stroll that raises funds to fight kidney disease through prevention, advocacy and education. In Louisiana alone, over 8,000 are being treated for end stage kidney disease, and 1,390 are awaiting kidney transplants.

The Walk will be held at Audubon Park, Shelter #10 in New Orleans. Onsite registration begins at 8:00am and the Walk starts at 9:30am. Walkers participate as individuals or form teams with family, friends or colleagues. The Walk will also feature food and fun for the whole family, with special activities for the kids. Walkers are encouraged to fundraise for the event. Those interested in getting involved or supporting a walker can visit www.kidneywalk.org.

The National Kidney Foundation is dedicated to the prevention of kidney disease, improving the health and well-being of patients and families affected by this disease and increasing the availability of all organs for transplantation.
