Two teenagers’ crime spree took them across town Thursday night, beginning with a carjacking in the Mid-City, followed soon after by a robbery at gunpoint in the Uptown, and ending by crashing their stolen car after a police chase through Audubon, officers said.
The night’s events began about 11 p.m. at the intersection of St. Peter and David streets, when a white Honda Accord was stolen in a carjacking, according to an email alert from the New Orleans Police Department.
At 12:45 a.m., police said another man had just parked his own vehicle on the 1800 block of Cadiz Street when he was approached by a stranger wielding a semi-automatic handgun who said, “This is a robbery; don’t turn it into a murder.” The man with the gun took his victim’s belongings and left on foot down South Saratoga Street.
Just a few minutes after that robbery took place, police officers saw a white Honda Accord traveling with its headlights off at the intersection of South Claiborne and Audubon Boulevard, they said. They turned on their lights and siren and tried to pull the car over, but it took off down Audobon instead. They chased it until it crashed in the 200 block, and the two men inside tried to escape on foot, but police soon caught them.
The armed robbery victim was able to identify one of the men, 19-year-old Darren Pryer, as his assailant. Police found a semi-automatic handgun on the other man, 17-year-old Michael D. Feltus. The carjacking victim was then able to identify both Pryer and Feltus as well.
Both remained jailed this weekend without bond on charges of armed robbery, armed robbery with a firearm, and a variety of other charges.
