On Friday afternoon, a man helping a stranger who professed to be a Vietnam veteran was robbed at his home near Audubon Park, the New Orleans Police Department reported. A 62-year-old man responded to a knock on his door in the 300 block of Broadway at about 3:30 p.m. to find a stranger who, saying he had served in Vietnam, professed to be stranded and asked for money to get home. The victim let the man inside and went to get his wallet. In the meantime, the intruder rummaged through the living room and found a box of cash.

Purse snatched near Ochsner Baptist

A woman using a walker outside Ochsner Baptist Medical Center on Monday morning had her purse snatched, the New Orleans Police Department reported. 

The 50-year-old victim was near Willow Street and Napoleon Avenue at about 10:15 a.m. when a man grabbed the purse off her walker, the police report states. He is described as a black male in his early- to mid-20s, about 6-foot-1 with a slim build, wearing black pants and a white shirt with blue and red writing on it. Further details were not immediately available. Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD Second District station at 504-658-6020 to speak to a detective, or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward. 

Suspect sought in purse snatching on St. Charles

The NOPD is searching for a suspect, pictured above, wanted for purse snatching in the Sixth District. The incident occurred on April 24 in the 2200 block of St. Charles Avenue. A 77-year-old woman was crossing Jackson Avenue with her husband when the couple was approached from behind. The subject grabbed the victim’s purse off her shoulder and fled the area.

Purse snatched from woman, 77, on St. Charles Avenue

A purse was snatched from a 77-year-old woman on Wednesday in the Lower Garden District, the New Orleans Police Department reported. The woman was walking with her husband in the 2200 block of St. Charles Avenue, near Jackson, at about 7:30 p.m. when a man approached on a bicycle. He stopped, grabbed the purse off her shoulder and cycled away. Further details were not immediately available.

Purse snatching reported on Claiborne and First

A 61-year-old woman was robbed of her purse Thursday morning as she was leaving a store on South Claiborne Avenue. The victim was approached by a man asking for a dollar at about 6:40 on Feb. 28, the New Orleans Police Department reported. When she opened her purse to give him money, the man knocked it the ground. He  then grabbed the purse and fled, heading uptown on South Claiborne Avenue.
