The two buildings on Zimple Street are both owned by Tulane University, and sit on the university side of Broadway Street. The property at 7008 Zimple is known as the Tate House (home to the Center for Global Education), and 7016 Zimple is listed as part of the Institute for Environmental Law and and Office for Continuing Legal Education.
The home at 5518 Tchoupitoulas is owned by Carwash Blues LLC under the same address as Uptown Carwash, at the end of the block. Ownership information for 5514 Tchoupitoulas is currently unavailable in the city’s property ownership database.

I object to the demolition of the properties located at 7008 and 7016 Zimple, both owned by Tulane, and 5514 and 5518 Tchouptioulas. The continued destruction of housing stock from the early 20th century, the late 19th century and the part of the 20th century between 1920 and 1940 destroys the character of this city’s housing stock. This city should not be a copy of hometown USA with its cookie cutter unimaginative housing stock. These old houses like the ones in the picture can be restored and brought up to code just I did with my old house in uptown.
Moderation sounds like concession to me and I am opposed to it. Like I said above the destruction of architectural gems destroys the character of this city.
I agree 100% with Herb! Tulane must have more money than they know what to do with it. Why destroy (almost) perfectly good housing just to build some other buildings which most likely will not look anything like the period styles there now? Also the process will likely do damage to the other house in between these 2 addresses on ZImple and the other houses/buildings on Audubon and Freret that surround them? Guess I won’t be donating any more of my money to Tulane for this nonsense. What shortsighted jackasses.
Has anyone noticed the request for 6048 Perrier, the old LaSalle School? This is on an endangered properties list by the PRC. This is a huge property in the middle of some of the most expensive real estate in the city. I know it was auctioned off at some point, does anyone know who bought it and what the plans are for it?
Uptowner, my understanding is that this request is just for the caretaker’s cottage on the site. The rest of the building is planned for a renovation into condos by developer Jim MacPhaille. Here’s our most recent article on the topic:
