Carrollton neighbors seek reopening of Nix Library

The need for air-conditioning repairs has the Nix Library on South Carrollton closed indefinitely, but residents in the neighborhood are organizing an effort to get the city to reopen it.

Nix is “in disrepair …. and no money is available for repairs,” the Central Carrollton Association has been told, so the branch will remain closed indefinitely. Efforts to reopen the library will be among the topics discussed with a liaison of City Councilwoman Susan Guidry’s office at a neighborhood meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday (Aug. 8 ) in the lounge of Central St. Matthew Church, 1333 S. Carrollton.

Also on the meeting agenda:

  • A report on the zoning of a proposed coffee shop and Japanese convenience store at 2101 S. Carrollton. The City Council last week deferred a decision on this matter until its Aug. 18 meeting.
  • Report on Priority Street from Enrico Sterling, Liaison, District A City Council Office
  • Plan for CCA Neighborhood Block Party Sept. 25 from Phyllis Jordan, CCA VP
  • Plans for Fall Cemetery Clean-up from Mark Vail, Chair, Cemeteries
  • Report on Neighborhood Tree Planting from Barry Kohl, Chair, Tree Committee
