A bicyclist was killed Tuesday (Dec. 29) night after being hit by a sport utility vehicle while crossing St. Charles Avenue, the New Orleans Police Department reported.
The cyclist was traveling toward the river on Delachaise Street at about 11:35 p.m., police said. He went through a stop sign and entered St. Charles, where he was struck by a west-bound black SUV and thrown from his bike.
The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by the Emergency Medical Service.
No charges were filed against the driver, police said; the investigation in ongoing.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name after an autopsy and the notification of his family.

RIP, cyclist! I, also pedal our streets, which actually have a million more pot-holes and ruts than there are stop signs. But ya should have stopped and looked both ways before crossing the street…….basic kindergarten life skill.
Sorry for the diatribe, but yes, I am the person who yells at cyclists riding the wrong way, running stop signs and red lights, making illegal left turns. We’re supposed to follow the same rules that motorists do, except we have one way of making left turns that thy can’t do: Cross the street, then position your bike to the left to cross when the light turns green.
BTW, that is the same corner where a pedestrian eying her device, nearly walked into my moving tricycle—because she was crossing St Charles without checking for traffic.
I totally agree with you. I see cyclists all the time on Magazine at night// no reflector , no light, no helmet, no regard for traffic signals, clad in dark clothing

So was the cyclist above St Charles Ave? And turned right onto St Charles off of Delachaise? Let me see , was the cyclist at fault for something? Who knows he didn’t stop at the stop sign. Shouldn’t motorists be more aware, conscious, and courteous to cyclist and maybe even wheelchair users?
