Laurel Street Bakery will celebrate the grand opening of its new location at the corner of Washington and Broad streets on Monday morning.
For details, see the news release below:
Laurel Street Bakery will open its new location 7 am Monday, October 7 at 2701 South Broad Street. A short opening celebration will take place at 9 am that morning. The Broadmoor bakery will offer a wide variety of fresh-from-the-oven baked goods including bagels, muffins, cakes, cookies, breads, scones, and croissants as well as preparing a variety of breakfast sandwiches, lunch items and espresso drinks. Owner Hillary Guttman says the new place will harken back to the days of neighborhood bakeries, but also provide fast, wholesome food for those on the go.
“You should be able to enjoy old fashioned, preservative-free, delicious food and still have time to get to work,” says Guttman. “Everyday, thousands of people travel through the Washington and Broad Corridor and there are many now working here. I’m so proud to be part of this community renaissance.”
Guttman is referring to the $8.7 million Washington Avenue and Broad Street project, which combines public and private funds. Councilwoman LaToya Cantrell and local developer Green Coast Enterprises (GCE) began spearheading the project more than three years, and it now includes a community health clinic; social entrepreneur incubator Propeller; nonprofits; businesses and another new restaurant 3 Potato 4. Besides the busy car traffic moving through the corridor, it is the second busiest bus intersection in the city.
Guttman says that she’s relieved to be opening, and now she can focus on her first love: baking.
“This is a great community with a new school, library/community center and now a resurrected business corridor,” says Guttman. “Come Monday, I’ll be very happy to be baking up a storm, visiting old friends and new, and looking forward to a great future.”
