A man was shot to death in a home that had been ransacked early Friday morning on Prytania Street in the Lower Garden District, authorities said.

The man was found bleeding from from a single gunshot wound to his head in the living room of a home in the 2000 block of Prytania Street just before 1 a.m., according to a NOPD news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the release states.

The home had been ransacked and his 2008 white Jeep Cherokee (with Louisiana license plate WPR 618) was also missing, the release states.

Investigators returned to the home to tow a white Dodge Charger from the backyard this morning, though it was unclear how that vehicle was connected to the investigation, according to a report from our partners at WWL-TV.

The investigation is being led by NOPD Homicide Detective Tanisha Sykes. Anyone with information is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 822-1111.
