A fire early Thursday morning in an upstairs apartment behind Ace Hardware on Oak Street killed a well-liked man who had worked in the store for 12 years, reports Bill Capo of our partners at WWL-TV.

A terrific co-worker, a very good friend, a talented musican, and an all around goofy SOB, and he’ll be missed in the Oak Street “family”. A sad day for us all. Even though I’m ex-Army, sempter fi, Charley!
Too sad…I played with him one time and of course saw him at Oak Street Hardware all the time. He seemed like a genuinely nice person…very sad.
