Nola.com: Crescent City Farmers Market stumped by permit request

The Crescent City Farmers Market, which operates weekly in the Uptown as well as downtown and Mid-City, tells Nola.com that the New Orleans Fire Department's recent request for weekly permits for each of its tents would amount to 600 applications yearly at a cost of $10,000. The fire department has given the farmers market until the end of next week before they will face fines or closure. Market organizers told Masako Hirsch of The Times-Picayune they are “optimistic” they can get an exemption and city officials also said they are working toward a solution.
