A car plowed through two walls of a home near the intersection of Cadiz and Claiborne around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, sending the driver to the hospital but without injuring anyone else, witnesses said.
An aspiring chef was stabbed just off Prytania and a bank manager was robbed in his car while driving through Fontainebleau in a wave of seemingly unconnected muggings around Uptown New Orleans over the last week, police said Wednesday.
Investigators have made arrests in several cases and have developed suspects in several others, but with no single underlying cause or pattern, the holdups are difficult to prevent, authorities said. Meanwhile, a rash of car break-ins have been reported all around Uptown, investigators said.
Despite his pleas of self-defense, Burtell Thomas, 27, will be sentenced Oct. 5 to a mandatory life term in prison on a second-degree murder conviction for shooting 31-year-old Lashawn Butler six times on June 25, 2009, at Butler’s Cadiz Street home near Loyola Avenue, according to Gwen Filosa of the Times-Picayune.
Two teenagers’ crime spree took them across town Thursday night, beginning with a carjacking in the Mid-City, followed soon after by a robbery at gunpoint in the Uptown, and ending by crashing their stolen car after a police chase through Audubon, officers said.
A woman walking on St. Charles Avenue was robbed at gunpoint of her purse by two men on bicycles Thursday evening, police said.
