Car break-in victim shot at while confronting group of burglars (video)

An Uptown resident was fired at after confronting a group of vehicle burglars near Jena and Danneel streets early Sunday (March 1), the New Orleans Police Department reported. He was not injured by the gunfire. The NOPD is looking for five suspects in the aggravated assault and car burglaries. At around 5:20 a.m., the five males were captured on surveillance video breaking windows and entering vehicles on the quiet Uptown street. The video released by the NOPD can be viewed here.

61-year-old booked with assault after dispute over marijuana purchase

A 61-year-old man was arrested in Central City on Friday after threatening a marijuana dealer, the New Orleans Police Department reported. Police say Louis Wright purchased marijuana from a 36-year-old man in the 2400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at about 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 22. After realizing the product was of poor quality, he returned to the location, the police report states.  Wright allegedly pulled a knife on the man and demanded his money back. The dealer refused to turn over the money.

Two arrested in assault and battery incidents

A man was arrested Sunday in connection to an armed robbery and domestic abuse in the St. Thomas area, the New Orleans Police Department reported. The victim, a 29-year-old woman, arrived at her home in the 500 block of St. Mary Street with friends at about 7 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, when a man she identified as David Sparrow, 27, approached her.

NOPD: Lower Garden District man facing litany of charges held relative against his will

The NOPD arrested Sean Carter, 24, on June 30 on numerous charges stemming from an aggravated assault that occurred in the 900 block of Saint Mary Street on June 29. Carter was allegedly holding a family member, a 41-year-old man, against his will inside the residence. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Carter and a search warrant for the residence. Detectives were able to persuade Carter to release the victim and to surrender himself, which he did without any further incident. Upon executing the search warrant with the assistance of Sixth District Task Force officers, detectives located five firearms within the home, two which were reported stolen from outside of Orleans Parish.

Lower Garden District man arrested on assault, robbery, gun and drug charges

A man was tied up inside the home of Lower Garden District man who was later arrested on assault, robbery, gun and drug charges, the New Orleans Police Department reported. The victim, a 41-year-old man, was in the 900 block of St. Mary Street when a gunman forced him inside his home, where he was tied up, the police report states. Police arrived at the scene at about 9 p.m. and arrested Sean Carter, 24. Arrest records show Carter faces charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault and illegal possession of a firearm.

Suspect arrested in assault, attempted rape in university area, Audubon Park

The New Orleans Police Department arrested Até Dumas, 30, in connection with two incidents that occurred Uptown near the universities. At about 7 a.m. on June 8, NOPD Second District officers and NOPD Special Victims Section Sex Crimes Unit detectives were notified of an attempted sexual assault that reportedly occurred at Audubon Park that morning. Through investigation, detectives learned that a female victim was leaving a restroom at the park earlier that morning when a man allegedly attempted to sexually assault her. The victim reportedly escaped and fled the area before contacting police. During the investigation, detectives learned that a suspect in an unrelated aggravated assault incident at Audubon and Green streets that same morning matched the description given by the victim in the June 8 sexual assault incident.

Suspects sought in armed assault on Claiborne

The NOPD is searching for two suspects wanted for a May 21 aggravated assault with a firearm on Claiborne Avenue. Kaitlynn Hedman, 23, and Donald Johnson, 25, are wanted in connection with an aggravated assault with a firearm in the 3300 block of South Claiborne Avenue. Wallet snatched in the Lower Garden District
A 33-year-old woman was standing outside a building in the 2100 block of St. Charles Avenue on Tuesday about 4:40 p.m. when a man approached from behind and snatched her wallet from her hand. He then ran off down Josephine Street. Sixth District Task Force officers later apprehended Owen Williams, 31, in the incident. Two men stabbed during fight in Central City
