Creole Oyster Dressing like your grand-mère used to make

Oyster dressing, or farci d’huîtres, served with turkey was already an established tradition in 19th century New Orleans. “Nothing is more elegant or recherché than an Oyster Dressing,” reads the original “Picayune Creole Cookbook,” published in 1901. “Oyster stuffings are favorite Creole dressings for turkeys.”

Our family’s Thanksgiving tables yield oyster dressings with only the slightest variations, the Creole-French-Spanish, the Creole-Irish-Italian and the Creole-French-German version. They all look and taste the same to me, except one. That one included beef.

Police blotter: Carjacking and three robberies reported

Two cars and a motorcycle were stolen in Uptown neighborhoods over the weekend, and a group of juveniles was arrested in purse snatching. Carjacking: A teenage girl was carjacked on Sunday (Nov. 21) in the Garden District. Three men approached the 17-year-old at about 4:30 p.m. as she was getting out of her car in the 1200 block of Harmony Street. One of the men pulled on her door handle, then pulled out a gun and demanded her keys.

Cohen High offers its students a $100 vaccination incentive

Walter L. Cohen High School, at 3520 Dryades St. in the Milan neighborhood, is offering $100 to eligible students who have received or will receive the Covid-19 vaccine. At a vaccination event on Thursday (Nov. 18), around 40 students took advantage of the offer and received their first or second shot. The initiative began Sept.

Two wanted for questioning in fatal shooting at second-line in September

The New Orleans Police Department is requesting assistance from the public in locating a man and woman for questioning as persons of interest in the ongoing investigation of a homicide in Central City on Sept. 26, as the Young Men Olympian second-line parade was winding down. NOPD Homicide Unit detectives have developed Lenard “Nardy” Green, 36, and Nicketra Scott, 30, as persons of interest in this incident. Neither Green nor Scott is currently wanted on criminal charges. However, detectives believe they may have knowledge of information vital to the investigation and wish to question them.

A child was injured in one of two shootings in Uptown neighborhoods this week, according to reports from the New Orleans Police Department. The reports also show the rash of vehicle thefts and carjackings continues, despite several recent arrests. And a man is missing his dog after it was stolen from him in Central City. Armed robbery: A woman’s car was stolen in the Freret neighborhood on Wednesday (Nov. 17).
