Tulane University to host ‘X’s and O’s,’ a play about football and traumatic brain injury

From Tulane University

Six years ago, Tulane University assistant professor Jenny Mercein and playwright KJ Sanchez co-created a play called X’s and O’s that examines the lasting physical and neurological impacts from playing football. Mercein and Sanchez are now bringing their docudrama to Tulane’s campus. On Thursday (Feb. 17) at 7 p.m., Tulane will host a reading and panel discussion of X’s and O’s inside the Jill H. and Avram A. Glazer Family Club at Yulman Stadium, 2900 Ben Weiner Drive. The event, a collaboration between the Tulane Center for Sport and the School of Liberal Arts’ Department of Theater and Dance, is free and open to the public.

Yardi Gras stories: Audubon-Riverside neighborhood has a sense of déjà vu

In its second year, the Audubon-Riverside subkrewe of House Floats selected the theme “Déjà Vu in 2022.” It has a double meaning. First, it’s here we are again — still with the pandemic. The Krewe of House Floats’ overall theme for the 2022 Carnival season, “Vaccinate, Decorate, Celebrate,” is also a nod to the enduring pandemic.

Audubon-Riverside’s theme has a second meaning, recognizing that many residents plan to re-use most or all of their house float decorations from last year.

About the Clerk of Civil District Court’s Office for the Parish of Orleans:
The Clerk’s Office consists of two divisions – Land Records and Civil. Our Civil Division is where civil cases — such as personal injury, accidents, successions and foreclosures — are filed. Domestic matters, such as divorce and child support, are also handled in the Civil Division. The Land Records Division is where documents regarding property are recorded.

Viewpoint: Did New Orleans fail Tyrese Harris?

Something is terribly wrong with Tyrese Harris, and it’s probably our fault. With a dozen arrests and 30 charges by age 18, Harris became a hardened criminal destined for acts of violence followed by long-term incarceration. He easily could have serious mental health issues.

When a suspect poses for an arrest mugshot, one can usually see emotion, embarrassment or occasionally a sense of humanity. Not Harris. He simply stares straight ahead at the camera with a blank look in his eyes as if he didn’t give a damn.
