Six people injured in two Central City shootings

Two shootings in Central City on Monday left four men injured, the New Orleans Police Department reported.

Four males, including two teenagers, were injured Monday afternoon in a drive-by shooting at Fourth Street and Loyola. On Monday evening, two more men were injured in a double shooting at Jackson Avenue and Willow Street.

New Orleans officials released the following information following heavy rains and thunderstorms that moved through the metro area Sunday morning. More than five inches of rain fell in parts of the city between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., with bouts of heavy rain at rates of two inches an hour and higher sparking Flash Flood Warnings.

Nonprofit for sustainability to host block party Saturday

Green Light New Orleans, a nonprofit organization working towards a greener future, invites the public to its Spring Block Party on Saturday, May 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. The festivities will take place at the Fidelity Bank branch at 1201 S. Carrollton Ave (at Oak St.) and will feature complimentary food and drinks, as well as activities for the whole family.

“Most people know Green Light for our energy efficient light bulbs, and we’re proud to have given away more than 600,000 of them,” said Founder and Executive Director Andreas Hoffman.

Norwegian Seamen’s Church buildings granted landmark status

A 20th century complex of buildings in a district revered for its 19th century architecture was given official landmark status Wednesday by the Historic District Landmarks Commission.

Designed and constructed in 1968, the Norwegian Seamen’s Church held its last service on Christmas Eve 2018. It then changed to secular hands, and its new owners are planning a wellness center.

GiveNOLA Day 2019: $5.9M raised for New Orleans nonprofits

750 local nonprofits received more than 50,000 donations and over $5.9 Million during the 2019 GiveNOLA Day. The Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Center for Philanthropy presented their annual giving event on May 7.

The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Uptown’s Louise S. McGehee School, and the Louisiana Children’s Museum received the highest dollar amounts, while GiveNOLA’s Lagniappe Fund, Team Gleason, and McGehee School had the most donors.
