This Week at The Broad: Spring Cleaning

Sponsored by
This week, we’ve decided to do a little sprucing up with our film lineup and give you not just one new film, or two new films, but THREE NEW FILMS all on the same day. This Friday we have three new releases that run the gamut from family friendly big-budget fare, to a return from a filmmaker who made the most critically acclaimed film ever shot in Louisiana.

ONWARD is the latest Pixar joint, and we don’t have to remind you of their track record. This movie takes the trope of children dealing with the loss of a parent and turns in on its head with excellent results. Add in some fantasy D&D elements and you’ve got something for kids and the parents who still remember where their D20 is at. Check it out starting this Friday.

Viewpoint: Criminals are in control because of NOPD officer shortages, Cannizzaro says

By Danae Columbus, opinion columnist

Although he has yet to formally signal whether he will seek re-election in the fall of 2020,
District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro gave a rousing address about New Orleans’ many crime problems and potential solutions to a packed crowd of Second Amendment supporters at the Home Defense Foundation’s meeting earlier this week. Attendees included New Orleans independent police monitor Susan Hutson.

City to take on parking problems in the university area

New Orleans residents know something about parking scarcity. Off-street parking is rare in the rows of century-old doubles and singles that make up the city’s historic neighborhoods.

In most areas, this is a problem occasionally, during special events or when a neighbor has a party. In the university area near Tulane and Loyola — where rental units are in especially high demand — it is constant, residents say, and it’s been getting worse.

Suspect arrested in Notre Dame auto burglaries

NOPD officers have arrested Ma’Leik Ahmad Hundley, 18, in connection with multiple auto burglaries that occurred in the Carrollton area.

Hundley was identified as one of four men seen on surveillance video of vehicle burglaries that occurred on Feb. 28 at the campus of Notre Dame Seminary, located in the 2900 block of Carrollton Avenue. About 40 vehicles were broken at around 5 a.m.

Wanted: Suspects sought in shooting, carjacking, car burglaries

The New Orleans Police Department’s Second District has released photos and videos of suspects in recent crimes committed in Uptown neighborhoods. They include a shooting during a car burglary in Broadmoor early on Mardi Gras Day, an armed carjacking in the Freret neighborhood and a rash of overnight car burglaries at Notre Dame Seminary.
