Recycle Christmas trees for coastal restoration

The City of New Orleans wants Orleans Parish residents to recycle their Christmas trees again this season to help coastal restoration efforts. Residents can place trees curbside before 5 a.m. on their regularly scheduled collection day between Thursday, Jan. 10 and Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell reminded residents that the City will continue its program of recycling Christmas trees in an effort to promote the restoration of Louisiana’s wetlands and to assist in the protection of the Louisiana coastline.

Four Lusher seniors awarded full four-year scholarships through QuestBridge

Lusher Charter School is pleased to announce that four seniors have been named QuestBridge Scholars: Kimani Coye, Vanderbilt University; Kiya Henderson, Pomona College; Mayela Norwood, Claremont McKenna College, and Amaris Lewis, Stanford University.

College Match Scholarship Recipients are admitted early to QuestBridge college partners with guaranteed, full four-year scholarships that are provided by the colleges and universities.

At Lusher, students choose an area of concentrated electives with focused courses. Kimani is receiving a certificate of artistry in visual arts; Kiya is completing a certificate of artistry in musical theater; Amaris is in the engineering design and development program; and Mayela, the biomedical innovation program.

Crime report: Armed robberies on Claiborne, Delachaise; wallet theft on Magazine

Suspect sought in armed robbery on South Claiborne
The NOPD is requesting assistance from the public in locating and identifying a subject seen on surveillance video in commission of an armed robbery that occurred on Dec. 10in the 8800 block of South Claiborne Avenue.

At about 6:05 p.m., the victim was assisting customers at a MetroPCS store when an unknown short black male wearing a black zip-up mask, black hooded sweatshirt, gray sweater and blue jeans entered the store holding a handgun. The offender demanded the victim’s property and fled the location with cash from the register. The subject then fled the scene westbound on South Claiborne Avenue.

Prytania Theatre to host 22nd annual New Orleans French Film Festival

The New Orleans Film Society (NOFS) announced that the 22nd annual New Orleans French Film Festival will be held from February 15 to 21, 2019, at the historical Prytania Theatre. Last year, the festival reached a record audience of about 4000 attendees, and NOFS expects the festival to grow even more next year.

This is obviously one of the main recurring topics of discussion amongst Realtors. Things have been slow the past few months. Hurricane season turns into election season, and then the holidays roll around. There was uncertainty in not only the real estate market but the stock market as well. A lot of people felt that the real estate market has plateaued, or even started to trend downward.

Lusher hopes to expand into new building by 2021

Lusher Charter School’s expansion into the Allen building next door is unlikely to happen prior to the fall of 2021, but school officials have already begun considering what renovations they may need now that the current occupant, Sci High, has held the official groundbreaking for its new building.
