Xavier will celebrate famed photographer with ‘Picturing Creole New Orleans’

Xavier University of Louisiana, in partnership with The Louisiana Creole Research Association, will celebrate the opening of “Picturing Creole New Orleans: The Photography of Arthur P. Bedou” on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The exhibition is part of LA Creole’s 15th annual conference, and it will feature collected photographs by the heralded New Orleans native who was personal photographer to Booker T. Washington.

“The purpose of the conference is to showcase Creole life in New Orleans in the early 20th century through the lens of Mr. Bedou,” conference organizers said.

Scooter theft on Laurel caught on video

The New Orleans Police Department is looking for information that can lead to the identity of a suspect involved in a theft incident that occurred on Oct. 23.
At around 3:30 p.m., surveillance cameras recorded the pictured unknown male stealing the victim’s scooter from a parking lot in the 3800 block of Laurel Street.  See the video here.
The reported stolen vehicle, pictured at right, is a gray 2019 Chicago Scooter Company moped bearing Louisiana license plate MC667512. 

Person of interest sought in Central City killing

The NOPD is seeking to locate an individual identified as a person of interest for questioning in the investigation of a homicide on Oct. 22.

Daranisha Allen, 31, is believed to have information relevant to the investigation of the shooting death of Day’Shawn Brown, 35, in the 2900 block of South Saratoga Street.

Allen is not considered a suspect and is not wanted at this time.

Couple indicted in rape inside Lenonidas home

A man and woman were charged Thursday with the rape of a woman they brought into a home in the Leonidas neighborhood in January, District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro’s office announced.

Edward “Eddie” Budd, 39, and Echo Hurlburt, 26, each was charged with first-degree rape in the indictment handed up by an Orleans Parish grand jury. The charge is punishable by a mandatory lifetime prison sentence upon conviction.
