Mid-City Rotary to host International Women’s Day brunch at Propeller

The Rotary Club of Mid-City New Orleans will celebrate their annual International Women’s Day – New Orleans with a brunch at Propeller, located 4035 Washington Ave. The event, themed “Be Bold For Change”, takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, and will feature three woman presenters, local entertainers, and brunch catered by local women-owned businesses.

Susan Guidry won’t seek return to New Orleans City Council, she announces

After serving two terms representing Uptown, Mid-City and Lakeview on the New Orleans City Council, Susan Guidry said Thursday morning that she plans to retire next year instead of seeking another office in the fall elections.

Guidry is term limited, and had been considering a run for one of the council’s two at-large seats. Instead, she said she will serve out the remainder of her term that ends in May 2018, without running for any office in the Oct. 14 election.

Indians meet at Second and Dryades (Photos)

On Mardi Gras morning, Mardi Gras Indians from Uptown met at the Sportsman’s Corner Bar in Central City. The Indian tradition is long-standing one in New Orleans’ black community and is a staple in the Mardi Gras celebration. Each year, the tribes sew their own elaborate suits by hand all year and debut them on Mardi Gras Day.
