Man shot to death in Central City

A man was shot to death in Central City on Thursday night, the New Orleans Police Department reported.

Sixth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at 6:58 p.m. in the 2100 block of Thalia Street.

Landrieu is also serving as a Visiting Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics this spring.

Marley Gras Jerk Chicken Festival gets its name back, announces music and vendor lineups

Marley Gras Jerk Chicken Festival is back with its original name as well as a full slate of local, national and international acts to accompany the Jamaican cuisine. The celebration of the connections between New Orleans and Caribbean culture is set for Feb. 9 at Central City BBQ, 1201 S. Rampart St.

Festival organizers and the Bob Marley family estate have resolved their legal dispute, and the festival can use the name “Marley Gras,” festival organizers announced. The name was changed to NOLA Jerk Chicken Festival in 2017, its inaugural year, in response to complaints from Marley International. But the festival continued to celebrate the reggae pioneer, who was born during Carnival season on Feb. 6.

Nicholas Payton to perform at the 15th annual Starry Night fundraiser for Waldorf School

Trumpeter, composer and Grammy Award winner Nicholas Payton, a New Orleans native, is headlining Starry Night Gala, a fundraiser for the Waldorf School.

The 15th annual Starry Night will be held at the New Orleans Jazz Market in Central City on Feb. 1. The gala will also feature silent and live auctions, raffles, live music, dancing, drinks and food. Tickets are available at different levels, from music-only to patron.

Who Dat Nation files class-action lawsuit against NFL

Saints fans have filed a lawsuit in state court to compel the commissioner of the National Football League, Roger Goodell, to apply implement Rule 17, Section2, Article 1 and 3, which gives the commission the power of “reversal of the game’s result or rescheduling a game either from the beginning or the point in which the extraordinary act occurred.”

The suit is in direct relation to the NFL’s referee’s no-call, or refusal to flag, a PI, or pass interference, and helmet-on-helmet violation — witnessed by over 30 million people during Sunday’s Divisional game between the New Orleans Saints and the Los Angeles Rams.

Three suspects arrested in the armed robbery of a bicyclist on Perrier Street

New Orleans police have arrested Shomari Christophe, 18; Keyon Doby, 19; and Antonio Coillins, 20, in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on Oct. 7 in the 4900 block of Perrier Street.

At 8:55 p.m., a man, 58, was reportedly riding his bicycle on Perrier near Upperline Street when he became aware of a dark-colored vehicle driving slowly behind him. He moved to the side of the road and the vehicle, occupied by three men, allegedly stopped alongside the victim.

The city paid tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday at the New Orleans Jazz Market on  and a march from the Market to A.L. Davis Park in Central City. Marc Morial, former mayor of New Orleans and president and CEO of the National Urban League, delivered an address at the Jazz Market. There, he talked about New Orleans’ key role in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, co-founded and led by King.
