Loyola mental health clinic seeks to fill gaps in local services by helping low-income clients

A new counseling center aiming to provide mental health services to struggling members of the New Orleans community has opened on the Loyola University Uptown campus.

The Loyola Center for Counseling and Education opened in January, offering sliding-scale services to uninsured and underinsured New Orleanians.

Photographer Timothy Duffy presents “Blue Muse: Timothy Duffy’s Southern Photographs.” The book features several New Orleans based musicians such as Alabama Slim, Ironing Board Sam and Little Freddie King. Duffy will appear in conversation with New Orleans Museum of Art curator Russell Lord, who wrote the book’s foreword. The program will feature a very special performance by New Orleans music legend Little Freddie King. A book signing will follow.

Lycée Français eyes McNair Elementary building on Carrollton

The Lycée Français de la Nouvelle Orleans board voted Monday to submit a letter of interest to acquire the soon-to-be-closed McNair campus in the Carrollton neighborhood.

The ReNEW charter system was operating two programs at the former Ronald G. McNair Elementary School at 1607 S. Carrollton Ave.: a pre-kindergarten program and a therapeutic day program for children with behavioral disorders.

Man shot on Airline Highway dies of his wounds

A man shot multiple times while in a car on Airline Highway early Monday died of his injuries the next day, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office reported. The New Orleans Police Department has reclassified the incident as a homicide.

The Coroner’s Office identified the homicide victim as Jonathon Matthews, 26.
