Paula Brown won election to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and a close race for Civil District Court between Suzy Montero and Rachael Johnson will require a runoff in an election Saturday that drew barely 10 percent of registered voters in New Orleans.

Brown won her race with 51 percent of the vote over Tiffany Chase’s 49 percent, according to results posted by the Secretary of State.

Though Johnson led in vote counting in precincts counted earlier Saturday evening, Montero slightly surpassed her in the final tally, with Montero taking 45 percent and Johnson taking 43 percent. Third-place finisher Marie Williams garnered 11 percent of the vote.

Both judicial races drew about 26,000 voters to the polls, slightly more than 10 percent of registered voters in the parish, the Secretary of State’s office said. Brown’s race was decided by a margin of 636 votes, and Montero was ahead of Johnson by 606 votes in complete but unofficial results.

The runoff between Johnson and Montero will be May 27.
