Two people lost their lives in shootings Friday night around Uptown New Orleans, police said — a woman who was inside her Dryades Street home when gunfire outside wounded five other people, and a man who was trying to rob a cell store near Walmart.
Shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, a mass shooting was reported in the 2500 block of Dryades Street, where four police found male victims and two females all suffering from gunshot wounds, according to a NOPD report.
“One of the victims, a 37-year-old female, was shot inside her residence and she later expired at the hospital,” the report states.
The gunfire came from two men inside a black sedan that then escaped the shooting scene, the report states.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m., a 28-year-old man entered the T-Mobile store in the 500 block of St. Andrew Street and tried to rob it, but another customer in the store drew a gun and shot him to death, the report in that case states.
“The perpetrator walked inside T-Mobile, produced a gun and demanded the employees and a customer go to the back room,” the report states. “The subject demanded money from the safe. As the subject was going through the safe, the customer pulled a gun and shot the subject. He expired on scene.”
The customer who shot the robber was taken into police custody, though no police have not said whether he will face charges, and both his gun and the robber’s gun were seized, police said.
