The week after Mardi Gras festivities conclude, the Nix branch of the New Orleans Public Library in Carrollton will reopen to patrons after five months of renovations, officials announced.

The library will reopen at 10 a.m. Monday, March 6, according to an announcement from the library system. The renovations included “a new floor plan design, new paint, plaster repair, five additional public computers (for a total of 11), a new self-checkout machine, new furniture and shelving, a new water fountain, new staff work area, plumbing and electrical work, floor replacement, new hardscaping, [and] new lighting,” according to the announcement.

Meanwhile, the Central Carrollton Association is continuing to campaign for handicap access to be added to the 1930s-era building.

Hours at the Nix branch will remain 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

  1. After millions spent, the library is still not ADA-Compliant and cannot serve disabled patrons. Sad!
