Contractors are set to begin rebuilding a portion of the long-closed Prytania Street, but the Octavia Street intersection will close for at least eight weeks as part of the process, New Orleans officials said.

“Permanent roadway placement” is scheduled for Prytania Street from Joseph Street to Jefferson Avenue, but the Octavia Street intersection will close for eight weeks starting Monday, May 23, according to a notice from the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans.

Joseph Street will reopen before Octavia Street closes, the announcement notes.

Prytania Street has been closed between Nashville and Jefferson avenues to create a new drainage canal adjoining the larger project under the Jefferson Avenue neutral ground.
