A 51-year-old man was arrested Sunday evening after he fatally shot his older brother in the chest during an argument at an Annunciation Street home, New Orleans police said.

Solomon Banks, 51, is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 61-year-old Sammie Banks around 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, in the 3300 block of Annunciation Street (near Toledano Street), according to the NOPD report.

“Solomon Banks and Sammie Banks were involved in a verbal altercation that turned violent,” the report states. “Solomon Banks pulled out a revolver and shot his brother once in the chest and fled the scene.”

Sammie Banks was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the report states. Solomon Banks was located in a home in the 1800 block of Second Street, and confessed to the shooting afterward, the report states.
