Two brothers have been arrested as suspects in a shooting that injured two people on Third Street in Central City earlier this week, New Orleans police said.

Around 9:40 p.m. Sunday, March 22, a 28-year-old man and 36-year-old woman were outside near a bar in the 1900 block of Third Street when shots rang out, striking the man in the buttocks and grazing the woman in the leg, police have said.

“Both victims were transported to the hospital and their injuries were not considered life-threatening,” police said in news release.

A CrimeStoppers tip identified 23-year-old James Marcelin as a suspect in the shooting, police said. On Thursday, investigators searched a home in the 3300 block of Martin Luther King Boulvard where they found Marcelin, his girlfriend, 9-mm and .380-caliber bullets, 5 grams of marijuana and $5,000 in cash, according to a news release.

His 21-year-old brother, Derrick Marcelin, who is believed to have been the gunman in Sunday’s shooting, was arrested afterward, jail records show.

“Because of both of their involvement in the shooting, both brothers will be booked with the aggravated battery,” said NOPD Officer Frank Robertson III, a departmental spokesman.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call the NOPD Sixth District station at 658-6060 to speak to a detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
