A fedora-wearing gunman emerged from behind a tree on Broadway Street, forced a pedestrian to lie down and robbed him at gunpoint before fleeing in a waiting SUV, according to a New Orleans Police Department report disclosing additional details about an armed robbery Wednesday night.
The victim was walking home around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 13) after visiting a friend, and as he neared the intersection of Broadway and Green streets, he saw a man hiding behind a palm tree, according to the NOPD report. He kept walking but the man stepped out from the tree with a handgun and ordered the victim to lie on the ground and empty his pockets, the report states. After collecting the victim’s belongings, the gunman got into a black SUV and left, and the victim told police a woman may have been inside the vehicle also.
The gunman was described as a thin, 5-foot-11, black man in his late 20s or early 30s with a dark skin tone, wearing a fedora, a black-and-white Polo shirt and blue jeans. The black SUV appeared to be a Chevrolet Suburban dating to around the late 90s, with “a silver metallic stripe around the tire frame,” the report states.
