A man delivering food to Washington Avenue was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday evening, and a man who discovered an intruder in his Hollygrove home was fired upon later Tuesday night, New Orleans police said.

In the robbery, the victim — a man in his mid-20s — was making a delivery to the 3700 block of Washington (near South Tonti) around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, when he was approached by a man with a gun who “demanded he put the food down and empty his pockets,” the report states. After the victim complied, the gunman took the food and left, the report states.

In the home-invasion case, a man stepped out of his home in the 8400 block of Palmetto Street (near Cambronne) around 10:45 p.m., leaving the door unlocked and a woman and two juveniles inside, the report states. The man returned three or four minutes later, and he found a stranger inside, the report states.

The two men began to struggle, and the victim managed to pull the intruder outside, where the fight continued, the report states. The intruder “broke free and another unknown male approached who opened fire once before they both fled, the report states, and the victim “sustained a laceration to the eye.”
