A 26-year-old man who was shot Sunday afternoon near Carrollton Avenue fled from the hospital later that evening still bleeding from the neck, and New Orleans police are seeking the public’s help in locating him again, authorities said.

Isiah Miller got into an argument with a person he knew around 12:20 p.m. Sunday (July 20) at the intersection of South Carrollton Avenue and Olive Street, and the other man pulled out a handgun and shot Miller in the body, said NOPD Officer Frank Robertson III. Miller was taken to University Hospital on Perdido Street in critical condition, Robertson said.

Later that afternoon, however, Miller fled from the hospital against the doctor’s orders, disregarding security as he left, police said. Miller, who stands 5-foot-6 and weighs 155 pounds, “suffers from an unknown mental illness,” police said.

“He was last seen dressed in green scrubs, IV in his arm, bleeding from the neck walking across the Poydras Street on-ramp away from University Hospital,” according to a missing-persons report by NOPD Second District Detective Latoya Lamb. “Isiah Miller is highly agitated and will resist being committed to a hospital.”

Anyone who sees Miller is urged to call 911. To relay other information about Miller’s possible whereabouts, call the Second District station at 658-6020 to speak to Lamb or another detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip.
