The Friends of the New Orleans Public Library are holding a major yard sale this weekend at the Latter branch library to clear out their entire inventory of surplus donated books, organizers said.

The library needs the basement area where those books are stored to be empty in preparation for upcoming work there, organizers said, so everything will be on sale Saturday at the library grounds.

“Our yard sale will feature thousands of hardcover and paperback books,” according to the flyer for the event. “Categories include fiction, foreign languages, children’s books, biographies, cooking, art, crafts, history, religion, science fiction, New Orleans local treasures and more. Ra-re and collectible books, CD’s, albums, DVD’s, and books on cd will also be available for purchase. Our Carriage House Book Sale will also be open for your shopping pleasure.”

The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (June 14) at Latter Library, 5210 St. Charles Avenue.

“Proceeds from the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library Book Sales fund summer reading programs, adult programming, staff development, local literary events, early literacy programs and much more,” the flyer reads.

I’ll probably be there. Even though I surely don’t need any more books!
