One man was wounded by a stray bullet in Gert Town, and another accidentally shot himself during a confrontation in Hollygrove overnight, New Orleans police said Monday morning.

In the Gert Town case, man in his late 40s heard gunfire in the 8000 block of Olive Street (about a block off Carrollton) around 12:05 a.m. Monday (June 23), and a stray bullet struck his leg, according to initial police reports.

In Hollygrove, a man in his late teens was near Leonidas and Apple streets shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday when he saw someone he knew approaching, according to the initial police report. The teen “displayed his weapon” but stumbled, and the gun went off, striking the teen in the forearm, the report states. The injury was not considered to be life threatening, said NOPD Officer Garry Flot.
