After a cluster of car break-ins on Richard Street last week, New Orleans police are hoping the public can help identify or locate a suspect caught on nearby surveillance camera or the vehicle he was driving, authorities said.

The vehicle burglaries were reported around 10:30 a.m. Friday in the 900 block of Richard Street. One victim had seen a car circling the block while she got out and locked her own vehicle, but returned to find her windows smashed and her belongings taken, said Sixth District Detective Anya Hilliard. When detectives viewed nearby surveillance cameras, they saw a suspect checking the cars in the block and breaking into two of them, holding an umbrella to hide his face, Hilliard said.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a four-door silver Nissan sedan, possibly about five years old. Its license plate could not be seen, but it had stickers with a green letter “N” on either side of the license plate, possibly the logo for Newman school. The suspect is described as a black man wearing a white sleeveless undershirt and dark-colored pajama pants.

Anyone who sees the vehicle is urged to call Sixth District detectives at 658-6060.

That Newman tuition is pretty demanding.
