A 55-year-old man was arrested Monday on an attempted-murder charge after he allegedly shot another man with a shotgun concealed in a trash can over the weekend in Central City, New Orleans police said.

Freddie Johnson had been seen pulling a trash can through the street in the 2200 block of St. Andrew Street, and around 8:30 a.m. Saturday (June 21), he pulled a shotgun out of it and shot another man in the torso with it, according to a NOPD news release. The victim was later listed in stable condition at the hospital, and detectives obtained a warrant for Johnson’s arrest on a charge of attempted first-degree murder, the release states.

Johnson turned himself in to the Sixth District on Monday and was taken into custody on the attempted-murder charge, said NOPD Officer Frank Robertson III.
