Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra will perform at a free block party Saturday afternoon at a Central City fire station, celebrating the rebirth of Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard and the orchestra’s future home at the New Orleans Jazz Market there.
The party will run from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Squirt 16 Fire Station at 2000 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard with food prepared both the firefighters and nearby restaurants, and Mayfield will begin performing at 3:30 p.m. For more details, see the following information from the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra website:
The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra is proud to announce a family-friendly Block Party to support and celebrate the Central City Community and the future home of the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, The New Orleans Jazz Market. On Saturday, June 7th (2:00-5:00pm), NOJO’s Block Party will feature a free performance by Grammy-winning Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra in the 6th District Fire Station. Other free activities will include an Instrument Petting Zoo with students from the Irvin Mayfield School of Music, a meet-and-greet with NOFD Fire Fighters, hot dogs and hamburgers, restaurant samplings from Casa Borrega and Cafe Reconcile, a Home Depot Building Workshop for kids, and fresh produce from Jack and Jake’s.
