Chesley Harris is charged with two counts of armed robbery and several other charges relating to stolen property. See the NOPD news release for more details:
New Orleans Police Second District detectives arrested 33-year-old Chesley Harris wanted in connection with two Armed Robberies.
On June 12, 2014, at the intersection of Oleander and Cherry Streets, Harris robbed his victim at gunpoint and demanded the keys for the victim’s vehicle. Harris then entered the vehicle and fled the area. Officers and detectives canvassed the area and located the victim’s vehicle within a half hour from the time the crime occurred.
During the course of the follow-up investigation, the detectives were able to identify Harris as the perpetrator of the Armed Robbery. Detective Samuel Jennings obtained a warrant for Harris’ arrest.
On Tuesday, June 24, 2014, in the evening hours, Second District detectives arrived at Chesley Harris’ residence in the 3900 block of Hollygrove in an attempt to locate him. Harris was located inside the residence and subsequently arrested for the Armed Robbery that occurred on June 12, 2014.
As a result of the follow-up investigation, detectives located property inside Harris’ residence taken in an Armed Robbery that had occurred earlier in the day on June 24, 2014, at approximately 8:33am, in the 9000 block of Olive Street.
In this Armed Robbery, the victim was approached by an African-American male, thin build, armed with a handgun, demanding the victim’s wallet and keys to his vehicle. The victim complied and the perpetrator fled in the victims Dodge Ram “Big Horn” truck. Harris was identified as the person responsible for this Armed Robbery.
The Dodge Ram truck was located a short distance from Harris’ residence.
Chesley Harris was arrested for both Armed Robberies and additionally charged for a Probation Violation, as well as being a Felon with a Firearm.
Harris is considered a possible career criminal with 12 felony arrests and 10 misdemeanor arrests. He is currently on parole for Unauthorized Use of a Moveable until March 2019. Harris was arrested for Second Degree Murder in November 2013 and Attempted First Degree Murder in 2006. Harris has also previously been arrested for Felon with a Firearm, Possession of Ecstasy, Possession of Marijuana, Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting an Officer, Flight from an Officer, Simple Burglary, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, Criminal Damage, Possession of a Stolen Auto, Possession of Stolen Property, Public Intoxication, traffic violations, warrants, and attachments.
