New Orleans police are looking for a man who snatched a $20 bill out of the register of a St. Charles Avenue store and managed to break away from employees who tried to stop him on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The man entered a store in the 2100 block of St. Charles Avenue around 2 p.m. Wednesday, then “posed as a customer and acted as if he was going to purchase an item,” according to NOPD Detective Drew Deacon. When the clerk opened the register, the man grabbed a $20 bill from inside it, Deacon writes. The store employees tried to stop the man from running off, but after a “brief struggle” he managed to escape, Deacon’s report states.

Anyone who can help identify the man is urged to call Deacon at the Sixth District at 658-6060 or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.
