A man on a motorcycle was injured Wednesday afternoon near the scene of a shootout on Fourth Street in Central City, and police are investigating the circumstances that led to his injuries.
The shooting was reported just before 5 p.m. near Fourth and Danneel streets, where police and paramedics were tending to a man on the ground near a wrecked motorcycle.
Witnesses said that the shooting actually took place in the 1900 block of Fourth (on the river side of Danneel), and the motorcycle was put down in the 2000 block. The victim, they said, may have been hit by a car fleeing the shooting scene — it was unclear whether he had been hit by a bullet, and he was taken to the hospital soon afterward for treatment.
One woman, who described herself as the victim’s mother in law, said he was conscious, speaking and trying to move after the shooting. He was not involved in the shooting at all, said another relative at the crime scene — he was just driving down Fourth when the shooting broke out.
“He rolled right into the midst of it,” the woman said.
Fourth remains blocked at Danneel as the investigation continues.
