A woman managed to get away from an intruder who tried to strangle her inside a Green Street home on Wednesday evening, New Orleans police said.

The victim, a woman in her 30s, was coming out of the bathroom around 7 p.m. when she saw a man in the hallway of a home in the 8200 block of Green Street (just over a block off Carrollton Avenue), according to the initial police report. The woman got away and locked herself in a bedroom, and the man left, the report states.

The attacker — a tall, fit white man in his 20s with blond hair who called himself “Patrick” — had come by the house the day before and tried to speak to the woman, said a neighbor who asked that her name not be published. When the victim found him inside the house the following evening, he was holding a rope but strangled her with his hands, the neighbor said.

While the victim was in the bathroom, he had also turned a radio on so loud in the house that neighbors could hear it from outside, and closed all the window blinds, the neighbor said.

Anyone with information is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 822-1111.

  1. wow this guy seems like a serious cereal killer or rapist…maybe both. NOPD needs to get on top of this immediately. Where’s the sketch??? or hopefully some DNA from her fight with him.

  2. Cereal killer! Seriously?

  3. more Carrollton crime against women. something needs to be done in our area … home invasions … rapes …

  4. It took several hours for the NOPD to respond to the call reporting this crime. The perpetrator was long gone.
