An New Orleans police investigation into a burglary in progress closed a block of State Street in the university area for more than an hour Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Officers responding to call of a possible burglary in progress around noon Wednesday saw a suspect flee on foot, said Officer Garry Flot, and set up a perimeter in the 2400 block of State Street (near Willow) to search for him.

The perimeter was lifted shortly after 1 p.m., freeing up State Street to traffic.

The Ursuline Academy campus is in the next block, and both Eleanor McMain and Lusher high schools are nearby, but no schools were placed on lockdown, Flot said.
