The Emerging Philanthropists of New Orleans (EPNO) launched its season with the opening of applications for the 2014 class.

Conceived at a 504ward Dine Around in 2008, EPNO is an initiative to engage young leaders in New Orleans in philanthropy. Members participate in a six-month program, where they pool funds, collaborate on teams and allocate grants impacting issues they care about.

To date, EPNO has distributed more than $160,000 in grants to 36 local organizations.  Over 150 young professionals have completed the grantmaking program to explore the process for effective philanthropy and hear from key leaders from across different sectors.

Forty class members are selected through a competitive application process and work collaboratively in one of four grantmaking areas, based on cohort interest.  In 2013, the areas included Education, Women’s Issues, Housing, and Economic Development.

As one alum described the experience,  “EPNO was a unique and invaluable opportunity of learning the A to Z’s of grant making and philanthropy. I got to collaborate with a talented group of individuals. The outcome was not only impressive and rewarding, but left me wanting to find more ways to help our grantees and others.”

EPNO invites all alumni, grantees, prospective members, and friends to Eiffel Society (2040 St. Charles Ave) on March 12 for the 2014 Launch Party Happy Hour to celebrate the start of the application season and hear more about EPNO’s plans for the year.  There will be drink and food specials along with an exciting raffle.
