A car with a 2-year-old child was stolen from outside a store Tuesday evening, but recovered with the boy unharmed minutes afterward in Hollygrove, New Orleans police said.

A 52-year-old man left his grandson inside the car with the motor running to go into a store around 7:20 p.m., according to NOPD Officer Garry Flot, a departmental spokesman.

“When he was inside of the store, he heard the car drive off. Minutes later NOPD received a call of a child inside of a car at Palm and Hamilton Streets. Police arrived and found the abandoned car with the child inside. The child was not injured in the incident,” Flot wrote. “Police don’t have a description of the suspect at this time and will check the area for witnesses or surveillance video.”

The grandfather has not been charged with crime, but the NOPD Juvenile Division is continuing the investigation into his actions, Flot wrote.
