More than 13,000 customers in Uptown New Orleans lost power late Thursday evening and early Friday morning, Entergy officials confirmed.

At the peak of the outage around 12:30 a.m. Friday, nearly 13,100 customers had no power in a swath of Uptown that includes neighborhoods from Central City to Audubon Park, running along major corridors including South Claiborne, Napoleon and Tchoupitoulas. By 1 a.m., Uptown residents began reporting that their power had returned, and the maps showed as few as 2,000 customers still affected.

The online maps indicate in most cases that workers are trying to determine the cause and that power will be restored by 3 a.m. At one small outage in west Carrollton, the utility says that a transformer failed.

Crews had yet to determine the cause of the outage by 1 a.m. Friday, said utility spokeswoman Yolanda Pollard.
