The woman found dead in a tent Wednesday afternoon underneath the Pontchartrain Expressway died of hypothermia related to the extreme cold weather, the coroner confirmed to Meg Farris of our partners at WWL-TV, and another man was also found dead of hypothermia Tuesday near a Poydras Street hotel.

The woman found under the overpass was identified as Davetta Odom, 58, and the man whose body was near the downtown hotel was 32-year-old Charles Bourgeois, reports Danny Monteverde of The New Orleans Advocate.

  1. Truly sad…..and we call ourselves a civilized people……we let this happen to our most vulnerable and fragile citizens.

  2. we are one of the richest nations on earth, and someone can freeze to death on the streets of our city, what brought us to this ?

  3. people allowed to die in the cold. worth less, allowed to freeze. some weird sense of values here.
