A 25-year-old woman has been charged with murder in the shooting death last summer of her husband near his grandmother’s west-Carrollton home, New Orleans police said.

Latoya Francois, 25, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Clardie Ellis III, 27, according to a NOPD news release.

Ellis was arriving at his grandmother’s home in the 8500 block of Willow Street (between Joliet and Leonidas) around 10 p.m. June 7, 2013, when he was shot multiple times, and pronounced dead at the scene, the release states.

Ellis had just begun studying at Southern University, according to media reports at the time.

Homicide Detective Timothy Bender identified Francois “as one of two perpetrators responsible for the murder,” the release states, and obtained a warrant for her arrest. Investigators located her at an apartment complex in Gretna on Sunday (Jan. 19, 2014) and arrested her, booking her at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center as a fugitive, the release states.

“Additional arrests are expected,” the release states.
