A 20-year-old woman was raped Monday evening after an encounter near Audubon Park that began with an online date, New Orleans police said.

Around 6:30 p.m. Monday evening, “the victim met someone online and agreed to meet with him,” according to the initial police report. “Both subjects relocated behind a tree where the perpetrator forcibly raped the victim.”

The case is currently classified as an aggravated rape, the most severe sex-crime under Louisiana law. which normally applies to cases where the victim is unable to resist because of credible threats, force, use of a weapon or some sort of infirmity, but no further details as to which situation applies have been released.

No information about the suspect is currently available, said NOPD Officer Garry Flot.

Anyone with information is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 822-1111.
