A man in his late 40s was carjacked at gunpoint on Chestnut Street about a block from Touro Infirmary on Tuesday evening, and a man in his late 50s was attacked and robbed in his Apple Street home by two armed men, New Orleans police said.

Around 7 p.m., a man was getting out of his vehicle in the 3600 block of Chestnut Street when he was grabbed from behind by one attacker, and a second one shoved a gun in his face, according to initial police reports. They ordered him to put his belongings on a rear seat, and after he did so, they got into the front seat and drove off, the report states.

Shortly before 11 p.m., a resident of the 8400 block of Apple Street was at home when two men with guns forced their way inside, according to the report in this case. One of the intruders hit the victim with the gun, and they took a safe and a cell phone out of the house with them, the report states.

Further details were not immediately available in either case. Anyone with information is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 822-1111.

  1. more of the same. crime Uptown. crime Carrollton. Too close for comfort for this person. Who is to blame for high crime rate? What can be done about high crime rate Uptown and Carrollton? Well to answer the who question, that opens a great debate. WHAT can be done lies with our city leaders and needs to be answered sooner rather than later.

    • Disappointing to hear, as we just decided to retire there… Is there a neighborhood watch program?

  2. Quick fixes, more cops on patrol to respond faster in order to apprehend suspects and more project nola crime cameras. Moreover, we need more crime stopper awards and outreach. There should be a crime stoppers tips desk at every district station to issue cash on hand. Finally, similar to state police NOPD should release an app where residents can take pictures which are geo tagged of suspicious persons.

  3. Mr. Morris, I have a question for you. To your knowledge has there been even one arrest for all of the armed robberies/carjackings Uptown since Christmas. Even one arrest?

  4. 3 blocks from where Sandy Kaynor was shot. What makes that a hot spot? Section 8 apartments nearby?

  5. Look at the crime maps. The entire city is a hot spot.

  6. That’s a pretty good neighborhood. The thugs are probably coming over from the section 8 stuff on the other side of St. Charles
